he inspiring Belgian-Burundian Patriot Captain Delvaux
As a Burundian Activist, I first got in touch with Richard Delvaux Ciramunda, a Belgian-Burundian, just a Year ago. Having spent 12 years outside my homeland Country Burundi, I wanted to know Burundi's current politics. Richard Delvaux, whom I now call a Friend and a Brother, opened up about his journey in Burundi's politics. Mr Delvaux served as an Envoy to Burundi Peace Process in Arusha (Tanzania), he represented former Burundi President Colonel Jean-Baptiste Bagaza, a majority Tutsi Membership Political Party. Delvaux also served in the Burundian and Belgian Army, both Armies he respects, he says. As I researched more on the leadership of Capt. Delvaux, I was impressed to find he served in an organisation called Havila, founded by a Burundian Scholar Yochanan Bwejeri.
I felt privileged to communicate with Capt. Delvaux, he answered a number of journalistic questions I had put to him, at times, we disagreed, but he showed respect for my differences of opinions. It was indeed quite impressive to find that Capt Delvaux current comfort of life in Europe has not made him to forget about Burundi, the land where his Mother (a Tutsi, from the Royal Clan of Baganwa) was born, this prompted me to communicate with him on various topics and issues of Burundi politics and the Great Lakes of Africa. What was eye catching about Richard Delvaux Ciramunda is that although he represented a Tutsi majority Membership Political Organisation, together with a Tutsi Jewish Organisation Havila, he remains opened about dialogue and unity with non-Tutsi, I find that extraordinary.
As I screened Burundi Media and Blogs, some were clearly biased against Mr Delvaux, this was probably due to the fact Mr Delvaux’s views and vision was not shared by some individuals, some of whom have political differences and divisive agenda for Burundi. In all occasions I have been in touch with Mr Delvaux, I found him to be Patriotic, considerate, and collectively seeking for the protection and welfare of all citizens of the African Great Lakes. I strongly believe that if Burundi has more individuals with the kind of ideals such as the ones of Mr Delvaux, future Generations might find faith and hope that they will rebuild the Nation with sanity in all areas of governance, and I sincerely do hope that Captain Richard Delvaux Ciramunda joins the likes of Prince Louis Rwagasore (from the Royal Family and princely Clan as Mr Delvaux's Mother), Burundi independence Leader, who dreamed for generations of Burundi to live in dignity and hard work.
